The purpose of the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation of Foreign Documents (HCCH 1961 Apostille Convention), or also known as the Hague Apostille Convention, is to replace the traditional legalization process, which is often long and costly.

What is the Apostille Convention?

The Apostille Convention streamlines the process of verifying documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, educational diplomas, and more, by replacing traditional embassy legalization or attestation with an Apostille certificate. This system is only valid for documents exchanged between member countries.

This is the important if you are planning to study, work, or migrate abroad.
